Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I take this survey?

Research demonstrates that school learning conditions—time, teacher empowerment, school leadership, professional development, and facilities and resources—are critical to increasing student achievement and retaining teachers. This survey will provide you, your school and your district with information about the status of learning conditions in your school. Your opinions matter. This survey will help put your experiences and perceptions at the center of school, district and state efforts to better recruit and retain quality teachers.

ODE’s Center for the Teaching Profession, in conjunction with the Center for the Teaching Quality (CTQ), is asking a sample of Ohio schools to complete a the online Teacher & Learning Conditions Survey to inform decisions about improving teacher learning conditions across the state.

Is this survey really anonymous?

Yes! Only researchers at the Center for Teaching Quality (CTQ) will have access to these surveys. No reports will include information that could identify an individual teacher and no one in the district or state will be able to view individual survey results with demographic information. The code you have been given ensures that educators only fill out the survey once and help us identify the school in which you work. It has NOT been assigned to you as an educator; we will NOT know who you are.

How will the results be used?

This survey will help and participating schools and districts gather data on an issue that is essential to improve teaching and learning. Our hope is that these data can be used to for data-driven school improvement planning, faculty conversations and consideration of district and state policies and programs. The Ohio Department of Education and all the stakeholder groups listed as partners on this website will work to generate tools and provide assistance for the improvement of school climate.
