Welcome
to the Ohio Teaching & Learning Conditions Survey!
The business sector has long recognized and responded to the linkage
between employee learning conditions and productivity. Yet, while
business industries have designed and invested in innovative tools
and measures to focus on employee satisfaction, many schools struggle
to address critical learning conditions. Ohio school systems and
the policymakers that govern them are now attempting to measure,
recognize and respond to the direct impact these conditions have
on teacher attrition and student achievement.
The Ohio Teacher & Learning Conditions Survey is about hearing
from those who know best about what is happening in schools –
educators themselves. The survey provides all educators with the
opportunity to privately and anonymously provide input on critical
issues such as time, facilities and resources, empowerment, leadership
and professional development – all of which have been shown
to have an impact on whether teachers stay in schools and most importantly,
on whether students learn.
Every participating Ohio school and district with a sufficient response
rate (40 percent or more) receives a unique data report, representing the
collective perception of educators regarding teaching and learning
conditions. Ohio Teaching and Learning Conditions partners have
collected and are now providing this data in hopes to guide school
improvement planning, faculty conversation, community engagement and
consideration of district and state policies and programs.
The 40 percent response rate threshold helps ensure the results are
representative of the population of educators in your school.
The minimum response rate also protects the anonymity of respondents.
For those schools and districts that have reached the 40 percent
response rate, your data is accessible from this site with a password.
Every participating school in the state has been assigned a point of
contact for helping coordinate this initiative. The point of contact
for your school will ensure that every interested party working
directly in and with your school has access to the password for
viewing your unique school data. Click here to find the contact
information for the individual responsible for coordinating
data release at your school. (http://www.ohiotlc.org/reports/district_contacts.php)
Ohio Teaching & Learning Conditions partners have also created
resources to help your school community review and respond to data
regarding conditions for teaching and learning in your school.
For example, the Center for Teaching Quality has developed the
Teacher Working Conditions Toolkit
(www.teacherworkingconditions.org)
to help communities and schools better understand and respond to
data from the survey.
Technical assistance opportunities will also be available for all
participating schools to learn more about sustainable reform
strategies to improve conditions for teaching and learning.
In the coming months, please visit this site to learn more
about these opportunities.
“This survey will inform decisions about improving teaching
and learning conditions across the state. Research demonstrates
that school learning conditions—time, teacher empowerment,
school leadership, professional development, and facilities and
resources—are critical to increasing student achievement and
retaining teachers. This survey will provide you, your school and
your district with valuable information about the status of learning
conditions.”
